Conference Torquay at the M&IT Show - 6-7th October 2004

You’ve just got to get down to visit Conference Torquay on stand H67 at this years Meetings and Incentive Travel Show 2004 and join the fun of “Where’s Mike”. Over 800 Conference Organisers have visited the Conference Torquay website to join in this challenge and to find out more about conferencing on The English Riviera.

And while you are there, find out more about the new developments at the Riviera International Conference Centre

In 1987 the Riviera International Conference Centre, Torquay, (RICC) was among the first purpose built Conference Centres to be opened in the UK and remains the premier in the South West. Over the years the RICC has continually invested in meeting Clients’ needs and this year is no exception.

The need for Conference Organisers to design events to ensure greater participation and interaction between speakers and delegates has necessitated more breakout rooms. The RICC has now been able to respond to this requirement with the addition of extra facilities.

To supplement the Forum, (the existing 1,500-seater auditorium), and the Arena, (the adjacent Exhibition area of 1750 sq metres), the RICC has relocated its restaurant and has now dedicated that area of 700 sq metres as an additional conference and events facility.

This means that besides 5 other breakout rooms that hold anything from 10 to 150 delegates, the Rosetor now provides a reception area for 500, or banqueting for 350 or additional breakout areas.

“Since making the decision to dedicate this area to Conference and Events, we have confirmed 5 conference bookings that would not otherwise have found our facilities sufficient to meet their needs.” Said Nicky Harding Conference Torquay Manager.

“As it is accessible from the main delegate entrance it is superbly located and when booked in conjunction with the Forum and Arena Halls it provides a conference with exclusive use of the Centre on this level”.

Conference business is of vital importance to Torbay and to the Riviera International Conference Centre and, with the increasing competition for large conferences, the Centre’s decision to provide further and improved facilities will assist Conference Torquay in securing more conferences to the Bay at the Riviera International Conference Centre.

Conference and Events Manager Chrissy Farley has found the changes have not only helped her Clients but have assisted her team in their constant strive for improved service delivery. “Clients who have used the Rosetor as well as all the other conference rooms have found the logistics significantly help the smooth running of their events, particularly given the ease of access. The other bonus has been the amazing response to our new restaurant operation, the Bay Brasserie, with its sun-terrace and all day food and bar service.”

Conference Torquay’s latest mailing campaign is a competition to find its website character, Mike Speaker, from a selection of 6 different crowd scenes.
Currently 6 different postcards are being sent out depicting these various scenes inviting the recipients to “find Mike” and guiding them to the Conference Torquay website to enter the competition, for the chance of winning a bottle of champagne or a luxury box of chocolates.
In conjunction with this campaign Conference Torquay will be offering visitors to its stand at the Meetings and Incentive Travel Show the opportunity to “find Mike” in a set of similar scenarios. “ It is a great ice breaker and a lot of fun,” says Nicky Harding, Conference Bureau Manager, ”and from the response the mailing has received we are confident that this will be as popular!”
